For me, this is hard, based on playtime my top game would be Dragon Quest Builders and really that should be my top game on the Nintendo Switch. However, I am also a massive fan of The Witcher 3, but that game is rubbish when played on the TV but is great when played portable. So what is my top game of 2019, well it is an indie a game called Children of Morta, a game that surprised me and shocked me a game that I would have not even considered if it was not put on my radar.
Children of Morta is an action RPG with a rogue-lite approach to character development, where you don’t play a single character – but a whole, extraordinary family of heroes. Hack’n’ slash through hordes of enemies in procedurally generated dungeons, caves and lands and lead the family of Bergsons, with all their flaws and virtues, against the forthcoming Corruption.
Hack’n’ slash games is a genre that I love, Diablo 3 being one of my top played games of all time, but why would this game get on my radar. I do not like pixilated games I think they belong in the late 90s and on the old systems like SNES and the Megadrive, the days I was growing up.
The game Children of Morta is catchy thanks to its in-game commentary reminiscent to Bastion from Supergiant Games and its enjoyable combat system, procedurally generated dungeons, caves and lands and a great story.
